Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are relieved and grateful that a ceasefire has been declared — and MadaTech has reopened its doors to the public. We are excited to welcome visitors back to MadaTech and to continue providing meaningful science experiences for families across Israel - both in person and online. We sincerely hope that calm will hold and that this marks a return to routine, just in time for summer - our busiest and most impactful season of the year. We continue to pursue our mission remotely - sharing science content and simple experiments for families to enjoy at home, producing educational videos, and working on two new episodes of our science podcast. We also advanced the development of our new summer exhibition on space and aerospace innovation, which we hope to launch in the coming weeks. Just a few days before the recent escalation, a special event marking the Technion’s 100th anniversary was held at MadaTech - in the historic building where the Technion was originally founded, and which now houses our museum. The ceremony, attended by Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, the Mayor of Haifa, and Technion leadership, was a powerful reminder of the building’s central role in the development of Israeli science and innovation - and the great promise that lies ahead. This year MadaTech also celebrates a very meaningful milestone - its 40th anniversary: four decades of scientific excitement, nurturing Israel's future generations! On this important occasion we wish to thank you all for your continued support through the years, and especially for your solidarity during these challenging times. Voice of the People

voice-of-the-people-image.png

On March 5, 2025, MadaTech was greatly honored to serve as an inspirational venue for the first international conference of Voice of the People – a novel initiative of Israel's President Yitzhak Herzog. Addressing both the Israeli public and world Jewry, Voice of the People is a global multigenerational and multicultural council, with 150 members from 6 continents. Its mission is to create joint solutions, based on open, respectful dialogue, to some of our society's substantial challenges: growing polarization, rising antisemitism, and difficult questions of identity and belonging. In a full day dedicated to the topic of inspiration & innovation, council members met entrepreneurs and representatives of organizations who lead groundbreaking solutions to a range of challenges: from Rafael's defense technologies to agricultural inventions, from AI-based health apps to educational projects combining tradition with futuristic ideas. We are proud to be recognized as the place where scientific inspiration generates social change.

Enigma – the Decryption that Saved the World

This fascinating new exhibition revolves around a genuine WWII Enigma coding machine. The historic encryption device, considered absolutely foolproof by its German users, was eventually deciphered by the British, providing a major key to the allies' ultimate victory. The particular machine exhibited at MadaTech is a rare Enigma with Hebrew letters - originally given by the British Armed Forces to the Israel Defense Forces in 1948, and now on display in Israel for the first time. The exhibition, by courtesy of Efi and Tali Sagi, the David Berg Foundation, and Google, was opened in April for the Pesach holiday. The Enigma exhibition serves as a launching pad for many thrilling activities about encryption - introducing visitors to secret codes, mirror writing, and other cyphering techniques. Together with Google, we have also developed unique educational programs on this topic.

The Nobel Gallery -
Aaron Ciechanover,
the Nobel Prize in Chemistry

We are proud to announce the opening of MadaTech's inspiring Nobel Gallery, featuring the original Nobel medal and certificate generously donated by Prof. Aaron Ciechanover, who was awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry (with Prof. Avram Hershko) for discovering the ubiquitin system that regulates protein recycling in cells. The Gallery, courtesy of Martin Saidler, Yahel Foundation, and Sagol Family Philanthropies, honors Israeli scientific achievement and aims to inspire the next generation of innovators.

The Science of Magic

This highly popular exhibition, unraveling the science behind amazing magic tricks, has been renovated and upgraded to the public's delight. The exhibition utilizes fun magic tricks to expose the science behind the illusion – including principles of optics, mathematics, mechanics, electricity and magnetism.

Dinosaurs in the Park

Two new dinosaur exhibits - the 1.3 ton, 8-meter-long Melanorosaurus (black mountain lizard) and the 1.2 ton, 4.5-meter- long, Kentrosaurus (spiked lizard) - were put up in our outdoor Science Park. The huge 'monsters' attract many curious visitors who wish to learn more about these extinct creatures.

Micro:Bit & MacroBot

In the face of sirens and missile threats in November 2024, a dedicated group of middle schoolers took part in a 10-week hands- on program at the Gelfand Center in MadaTech, exploring robotics, coding, and the Internet of Things. In December, a specially adapted version of the course was launched for Haredi 5th–6th graders, expanding access to cutting-edge STEM education across diverse communities.

Reaching out
with our mobile labs

With Israelis evacuated from northern Israel now gradually returning to their homes, MadaTech's mobile labs have undertaken to bring special scientific activities to schools and preschools in the Matte Asher Regional Council. The preschool program, offered in 60 preschools, in both Hebrew and Arabic, is based on a favorite children's book. In addition, the Scientific Experiences program is delivered to 1131 students at 10 elementary and middle schools in the region. Our mobile labs also traveled to Migdal HaEmek in the Jezreel Valley, offering experiential programs to 849 elementary and middle school students at 7 schools, and 906 young children in 35 preschools.

My First Robot
